Saint John Port Authority
Growing to Serve the Cruise Industry

Just five short months ago, in spring, 2004, interim work was completed at the multi-use cruise facility development at the Saint John Port Authority's Pugsley A/B Terminal.

The interim work included demolition of a fifty-year-old cargo shed, resurfacing two hectares of ground surface, installation of a new FMT Gangway System "Memory Bridge," and provision of two 10,000 square-foot tents for use for tour reception and a dockside vendors market.

In particular, the new FMT Gangway System accommodates the largest of cruise vessels currently afloat at all stages of the tide, allowing for continuous and accessible ship-to-shore access for the duration of a cruise vessel call. This new gangway system will be instrumental in accessing the mammoth Queen Mary 2 which is scheduled to visit Saint John in the Fall of 2005.

The Saint John Port Authority has now turned attention to assessing needs for new permanent, multi-use cruise facility building with plans to enter the design phase of development before the end of 2004. When designed and completed, the new cruise terminal building will incorporate port administration offices and provide leasing opportunities for related activities.

This investment will create an exciting multi-use facility that encompasses the goals and objectives of the Port Authority, fulfills the needs of the port, the community and visitors alike, and will showcase the Saint John waterfront.
