In commemoration of the first North American French settlement, and the celebration of the St. John River's 400th anniversary, Célébrations is geared toward raising awareness of our area's unique history, encouraging mutual respect for our nation's cultural mosaic, and organizing a multitude of events to develop
our community to its full potential.

June, July & August
400 Year Celebration of Culture Through the Arts

The Saint John Arts Centre is hosting a 400 Year Celebration of Culture Through the Arts by way of exhibiting the heritage of over 15 cultural organizations in Saint John. The exhibition with photographs, paintings, artifacts depicting the period from pre-1604 to 2004 will remain at the Centre for the months of June, July and August. Festival 400, a series of performances and readings will take place on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning June 8th to August 25 at l2:00 noon. (506) 633-4870 or email sjarts@nb.aibn.com

Summer Sizzles on Market Square Boardwalk

Hear the best voices of our city vie for the Idol title! The champion will be awarded a one year lease of a Mitsubishi; $2,500 in cold hard, cash!, and, a record deal with a producer. Join us each week this summer to see local talent sing and dance to your classic favourites, and groove the new hits on the Boardwalk! 8 pm.

Every Thursday - Country Concert Series.
Return to the bluegrass roots of country with Reg Gallant, featuring weekly special guests! 8 pm.
Every Friday and Saturday - Live Bands performing. 8 pm.

Canada Day Weekend

Celebrations - Market Square Boardwalk
Thursday, July 1: Canada Day will feature something for everyone! Dragon Boat Race, canoe demonstration, Rhoda's Flea Market & Bingo on Charlotte & King Street, YM-YWCA Volleyball Tournament, New Brunswick Museum open with free admission, Flag Raising, cake cutting, Grannan's Hospitality Group Cooking Show, entertainment and fireworks. Plus Children's Afternoon Activities from 1-4 pm.

Friday, July 2: Aliant Street Beat Concert Series
featuring Taxi. 8 pm.

Saturday, July 3: 12 noon- 2pm:
Harley Davidson Show & Shine.

Free. 2 pm: Awards. 3 pm: Music by Joel Kroeker. Free. 5 pm: Miss C-98 Pageant Finals.
8 pm: Radio Factory and Fireball perform. Followed by Headpins & Haywire Concert. Beer Garden on the Boardwalk.

Saint John Jazz and Blues Festival

Various venues throughout the uptown area, plus the main stage under the Big Tent at Pugsley Park, Water Street. Read On The River!

Presented by the Saint John Arts Centre. A literary cruise on the majestic St. John River with three distinguished and award winning Canadian writers: J.J. Steinfeld, Lesley-Ann Bourne, and Richard Lemm. Cruise leisurely on the M.V. Voyageur II, a true Mississippi River Board refurbished in 1998 by the Saint John Marina. The M.V. Voyageur II contains a full sound system and bar. Limited seating,so register early! Tickets: $40 each. Available at the Saint John Arts Centre, 20 Hazen Avenue.
