20 Years of Song
Festival by the Sea
From
August 2 - 8, 2004 Saint John, Canada's oldest incorporated
city comes alive with colour and excitement as Festival by the Sea,
one of Canada's foremost national performing arts festivals,
presents seven days of sensational entertainment in celebration
of Canada's rich culture and heritage. Selected as one of
the top 100 events in North America by the American Bus Association,
this internationally acclaimed event spotlights popular and diverse
performers from across Canada.
Festival by
the Sea originated as the cultural component of the Jeux Canada
Games in 1985. This event included many fine facilities devoted
to the athletes but perhaps more importantly, created an environment
where people came to believe and expect that Saint John could produce
and support excellence. The first edition of Festival by the Sea
was the brainchild of Walter Ball, a well known local educator and
musician. Bernard Cormier, the first President also shared his creative
talent by creating the familiar festival logo. Due to its incredible
success it was decided to make it an annual event.
In 2004, the
festival will present the best Maritime Kitchen Party filled with
the sound of fiddles and laughter, a childrens' festival and a seniors'
tea. Top Canadian artists heat up the many indoor and outdoor stages
with high-powered entertainment including Celtic fiddles and toe-tapping
feet, down home comedy, lively pop, dynamic country, rock and roll,
and much more.

Canadian legend Tom Cochrane will be performing
at this years festival.
Free daytime performances
will be presented daily throughout historic Saint John at various
venues. Evening performances are staged in a magical setting under
a huge tent along the harbourfront of historic Saint John. In this
outdoor performing arts theatre designed for the festival with a
warm summer breeze, a quality of entertainment provides an experience
to remember!
Under the big top, along
with a colourful array of dancers from Highland to Ukranian groups,
entertainers from New Brunswick's Country Music Hall of Fame
will be on stage. The well-known Tom Cochrane will rock the dock
with "Life is a Highway" and the best voices will be
brought together from the Atlantic Provinces to give a spectacular
evening crowning our "Atlantic Canadian Superstar".
Experience the excitement
as hundreds of entertainers sing, dance and entertain their way
into your heart with designed shows that please every taste and
