Festival de la Baie Française
Celebrating 400 years of francophonie

June 24th to 27th, 2004

The Festival de la Baie Française is Greater Saint John's most important francophone event. During the four day festival, the francophone community celebrates its unique culture and "joie de vivre". The Festival also aims to promote harmony between the anglophone and francophone communities by reaching out to the greater Saint John community.

A number of popular events are planned for the young and the young at heart. The 2004 edition of Festival de la Baie Française will feature a number of events including a very special program to celebrate the 400th anniversary of Samuel de Champlain and Sieur De Monts arrival and naming of the St. John River, organized in cooperation with Célébrations 1604-2004 committee. In collaboration with Imperial Theatre, this year's edition of the festival will culminate with two performances of Molière's "Le Malade Imaginaire" by the world-renowned theatre company, La Comédie-Française on June 25th and 26th. These two performances will constitute a first for Canada, as it will be the very first time La Comédie-Française, one of the oldest theatre companies in the world, will perform in our country since their creation in 1680.
